DIY: Colored Sole Oxfords

Friday, March 23, 2012

An emerging borrowed from the boys trend is the colored sole oxford. The classic oxford has been popular in the women's market for a few years. In spring 2009 designer Rachel Comey released a line of whimsical colored sole shoes for men. Since then colored soles have taken off in the mens market.  In line with the current neon craze, designers in the likes of Jil Sander have now placed the classic shoe on fluorescent colored soles. It was only a matter of time before the girls got in on the fun.

Today I'm going to show you how to revamp the soles of your oxfords with nail polish. Yes you read it correctly, nail polish. After a few coats of nail polish...voila, magic!

Supplies you'll need : A bottle of white and neon nail polish. You can use paint instead of nail polish for a matte finish.  I like to use nail polish since it dries with a glossy finish.

Step 1: Apply two to three coats of white nail polish to the sole of the shoe. Allow polish to dry for about 15 minutes. If you don't have a sturdy hand use painters tape to cover upper part of the shoe.

Step 2: Apply two coats of neon nail polish over the areas painted with white polish and allow to dry.
