Trend Watch : Ikat

Friday, January 13, 2012

Ikat (pronounced “ee-cahht”) inspired prints are popping up on everything from apparel to accessories.  Ikat is a geometric or zig-zag pattern with blurred or jagged edges. The technique for achieving the pattern is centuries-old with no exact location of its origins.  Ikat patterns are created with a resist dyeing technique in which threads are dyed before the fabric is woven. Not to be confused with tie-dye which is done after the fabric has been woven. What do you think of Ikat prints? Like it, Love it or Hate it?
